Halifax, Lest We Forget

Remembrance Day is of particular significance to Halifax, which not only served an important role in both the great wars, but presently stands as Canada’s largest Canadian Forces Base. Whether you have a loved one in service or not, attending a Remembrance Day ceremony can be a moving event.

Commemorate Remembrance Day at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site with a 21-gun salute at 11 am. Again this year, the Army Museum will be open from 10 am – 2 pm. Visitors can see exhibits and artifacts that recount the role of Canadians in the world wars and other conflicts, with a special focus on contributions from Nova Scotians. The feature exhibit The Road to Vimy and Beyond includes a complete scale model of the famous Vimy Memorial, a powerful monument to the sacrifice of Canadians who fought and died in the First World War. Admission to the museum and to the site is free.

Remembrance Day Ceremony at PPP

Every year members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the public gather at the Sailors Monument (The Halifax Memorial) in Point Pleasant Park to honour and remember the men and women who fought in wartime.

The shores of Point Pleasant Park have often been the place of welcome and farewell for sailors, soldiers, and their families and loved-ones.

The Remembrance Day Ceremony will take place on November 11th, 11 a.m. at the Halifax Memorial in the park.
