A Message from NSGEU President Jason MacLean

Good afternoon,

I am sure each and every one of you has entered a very different workplace today. All government agencies and employers we work with are dealing with the uncertainty that has emerged as COVID-19 has arrived in our country and, most recently, here in Nova Scotia.

Many of us are feeling anxious as we face this unprecedented challenge together. But that’s the part I want to focus on: we are working together, with government, to try and ensure the safety of Nova Scotians. Cooperation is key to being able to effectively manage the spread of this virus, so we all need to do our part.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your dedication and commitment to delivering critical public services to Nova Scotians. We need you now, more than ever.

I realize that many of you have important questions relating to pay, benefits, safety protocols, childcare and much more. We are working on a Frequently Asked Questions document, which we plan to circulate via email and post on our website and social media channels. We will update that document as more information becomes available to us.

Please monitor your email, our website and social media accounts for information in the coming days. Also, please heed the directions given by government and public health officials to help ensure the safety of your loved ones and our vulnerable community members.

We can and will get through this crisis if we work together and stay calm. We need to lean on one another in times like these, and your union will be here advocating for you along the way.

In solidarity,

Jason MacLean
President, NSGEU
