Expression of Interest for NSHA Nurses in NSGEU Zone Labour Management Committee Membership

The NSGEU is looking for nurses working in all Zones who are interested in becoming members of the new Zone Labour Management Committees. This is an exciting opportunity to work towards improving our workplaces and work lives.

Article 28 of our new Collective Agreement, which is effective today (January 30, 2019), stipulates there will be Zone Labour Management Committees composed of members from all unions represented in each NSHA Zone.  Here is how the committees break down:

  • Central Zone: Sixteen (16) representative (10 NSGEU, 6 NSNU)
  • Eastern Zone: Fourteen (14) representatives (1 NSGEU, 12 NSNU, 1 Unifor)
  • Northern Zone: Twelve (12) representatives (1 NSGEU, 11 NSNU)
  • Western Zone: Thirteen (13 ) representatives (1 NSGEU, 9 NSNU, 3 CUPE)

Each committee will be reviewing, drafting and implementing solutions to everyday work life issues faced by nurses working in the NSHA. Issues reviewed could range between any of the following:

  • Staffing
  • Orientation
  • Workload
  • Scheduling
  • Transfers
  • Reassignment
  • Scheduling difficulties created by short-term and long-term absences
  • Duty to accommodate process
  • Work situation reports as per Article 17

Committee meetings will likely be daylong and take place at least 4 to 10 times annually. Time off and kilometrage will be paid.

Our goal is to have nurse representation from all work areas represented by NSGEU (ie. Mental Health, Acute Care, Public Health etc…)

The committees will begin meeting in March 2019.

If you’re interested in becoming a committee member, please contact our health care Director of Servicing and Negotiations, Jo Ann Bailey, at jbailey@nsgeu.ca
