Local 480 Members – Correctional Officers Keeping Fentanyl Out of CNSCF

Dear members,

We were pleased to see a release from government today commending the work you are all doing to keep fentanyl out of the facility.

All too often the good work you do goes unnoticed and this was nice to see.

We have attached government’s notice below.

Thank you for continuing to do such good work under difficult conditions. Please remember to be safe and to stay vigilant.

JUSTICE–Fentanyl Seized at Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility

—————————————————————

A small amount of fentanyl was seized at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Halifax on Aug. 8, 2018.

Staff intercepted contraband concealed within an item at the facility. The package was turned over to Halifax Regional Police and the contents sent for testing.

The results, received on May 21, confirmed the presence of fentanyl in combination with a non-controlled substance.

Security protocols are in place to restrict the introduction of contraband to correctional facilities. Staff awareness and searching techniques prevented the contraband from reaching inmates.

This is the second confirmed fentanyl seizure at the facility.

Nova Scotians are reminded that the illegal consumption of opioids, including fentanyl, can be lethal. The Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act protects bystanders from criminal prosecution when calling for help.
