Advocating Parents of Nova Scotia is a non profit organization that is designed to stand tall for persons in the provincial care system that are falling through the cracks. What started as a personal story bloomed into a group that takes a fierce stand against injustices within the Nova Scotia community services care system as well as the justice system. Families of extreme cases come to us because they have no other venue to get their voices heard. We believe that all persons should be able to live in their communities with proper support and that they should not be criminalized for incidents that are beyond their control for health reasons or that stem out of inadequate supports in place.
APNS intends on holding the Nova Scotia government accountable to people that they take into care. We have no intention of backing down until changes are made to living conditions and how the justice system handles people with intellectual disabilities.
8 June 2014 at 2pm Advocating Parents of Nova Scotia in partnership with People First Nova Scotia are leading protests across Nova Scotia to stop referrals to and ultimately the closure of institutions. We intend to let the MacNeil government know that Nova Scotians are serious about community living.
The NSGEU is supporting these protests and we encourage you to attend where you are able.
Please note: The NSGEU is not covering any expenses related to attending the protests or time off.
