August is Acadian Heritage Month

The province of Nova Scotia proclaimed August as Acadian Heritage month in 2023 and it was celebrated for the first time in August 2024.
There is so much to celebrate! Acadians have been here for over 400 years with their first settlement in Port-Royal.
There are vibrant Acadian communities and peoples throughout the province including: the South Shore, Clare, Argyle, Annapolis Valley, Halifax, Chezzetcook, Truro, Pomquet, Torbé, Isle Madame,  Chéticamp, and Sydney.
The NSGEU represents staff at the Université Sainte-Anne – the only French-language post-secondary institution in Nova Scotia rooted in Acadian community and heritage.
We also represent staff and bus drivers at the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial – the only French-speaking school board in Nova Scotia.
Let’s celebrate! Find out more about activities taking place throughout the month at the Fédération acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse.
Remember: August 15 is National Acadian Day!
