Heroes Unmasked Campaign

Since March 2020, we have experienced a global pandemic and a host of other tragic and traumatic events. It has been a very difficult and uncertain time for all of us. Through it all, Nova Scotians have done what they do best: support and care for one another.

Our members are certainly no exception. We are proud to represent more than 32,000 workers who deliver valuable public services that we have all relied on during our darkest times.

We wanted to recognize the efforts of a few of these members. So, last fall, we issued a call to members, asking them to nominate any coworkers they felt had gone above and beyond – within the workplace or greater community – over this period of time. We were inundated, ultimately receiving more than 250 nominations.

A committee took on the painstaking task of combing through the nominations and selecting 14 heroes to profile. They are:

• Chris Whynot
• Rebecca Blank
• Karen Nickerson
• Tammy Calabrese
• Lillian Breckenridge
• Amanda Atkinson
• Rose Nolan
Over the next few weeks, we will share profiles of each of these members, and how they’ve given back at a very difficult time.
We want to thank everyone for their nominations. It’s clear from the volume and quality of the submissions we received that NSGEU members are doing amazing work in their workplaces and communities, and we appreciate all their efforts.
In solidarity.
