Bill 37 set to pass tonight! If you are not working, please join us at the Delta Halifax at 11pm.

Dear NSGEU members,

The Stephen McNeil government is all set to pass Bill 37, the most regressive labour legislation we have ever seen in this province and the worst in the country –tonight.

The legislation takes away any bargaining strength for all acute care and community care workers. This includes long-term care workers, home support workers, and group home workers. It is by far the worst legislation in the country and removes a fundamental right of workers to exercise their rights – permanently.

Members of NSGEU Local 97 are meeting at the Delta Halifax Hotel (1990 Barrington St.) at 11 p.m. tonight (Thursday, April 3rd) and heading to the Legislature to sit in the gallery as they pass Bill 37. It is a sad day for workers’ rights and democracy in Nova Scotia.

If you are not working, please join us at the hotel at 11 p.m. (remember to bring your identification in order to be admitted to the legislature).

We have posted video from today’s rally with messages from NSGEU President Jessome, Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) President Ken Georgetti, and Nova Scotia Federation of Labour (NSFL) President Rick Clarke along with some moving testimony from NSGEU nurses on the website. Please visitnsgeu.ca for updates.
