Local 87 – Parkland at the Lakes Ltd. Bargaining Update: Filing for Conciliation Services

Your bargaining committee initially exchanged proposals with the employer on December 12, 2023, and have had an additional 4 bargaining sessions (December 13 and 14, 2023 and February 6 and 7, 2024).

Unfortunately, we have reached an impasse.

Your Committee will be filing a request for conciliation services. We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that your bargaining committee can recommend.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

Two virtual information sessions are scheduled on February 15th at 5 pm and 8 pm. Please contact the NSGEU for link information.

We will discuss the next steps, answer any questions you may have, and share more information with you about bargaining and the bargaining process.

Your bargaining committee will provide details on the Employer’s final offer and Union’s proposal.

We appreciate your solidarity and support heading into conciliation.

If you have any questions, please contact a member of your Bargaining Committee.
