Restaurant/Food Services Workers

You’re Invited: Telephone Town Hall Meeting!

WHAT: Telephone town hall meeting, Restaurant/Food Services Workers

WHEN:  Monday, June 29th, 7 p.m.

On Monday, June 29th, the NSGEU is holding an important telephone town hall meeting with all Restaurant/Food Services workers who are members of Local 119 to discuss your employer’s plan to eventually privatize all restaurant/food services in the NSHA Central Zone, how this decision may impact you, and what your union is doing to fight back!

NSGEU President Joan Jessome was interviewed on this issue on Friday: The union will hold meetings with its members and then bring a proposal, which it will make public, to the employer, Jessome said. “We do believe that we can make these restaurant services cost effective,” she said. “I don’t think they need to lower wages and lay people off to meet (financial targets).” The root of the problem isn’t wages, said Jessome, but the way the operations are being managed by private contractors. “It’s mismanaged and they’ve driven it into the ground,” she said, adding that the union would take a strong position against outsourcing.
