Local 38 – Northwood Homecare Inc. Bargaining Update: Filing for Conciliation

Dear Local 38 members,

Your bargaining committee met with your employer on Monday, September 23rd and Tuesday, September 24th to resume negotiations. The committee previously met with the Employer on July 25th and May 28th.

At this time we have reached an impasse and will be filing for conciliation.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement. We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that your Bargaining Committee can recommend to you.

We are scheduling a meeting at the NSGEU office for Tuesday, October 1st from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to discuss next steps. It is asked that all members attend so we can update you and be present to answer any questions you may have on where we go from here. If you cannot attend on Tuesday, please notify a member of your bargaining committee to advise.

If you have any others questions, please contact a member of your bargaining committee or the NSGEU by calling 902-424-4063 (toll-free 1-877-556-7438) or emailing inquiry@nsgeu.ca.
