Local 73 – Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education Bargaining Update: Union Files for Conciliation

Dear member,

Your bargaining committee and employer resumed negotiations on Wednesday, April 6th. The committee previously met with your employer on November 15th & 18th, 2021 and again on February 23rd , March 24th ,2022.

At this time, we have reached an impasse and will be filing for conciliation.

What is Conciliation? Conciliation is a requirement under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act that takes place when regular negotiations fail to reach an agreement. Either party may apply to the Minister of Labour and Advanced Education requesting the services of a Conciliation Officer. The Conciliation Officer does not have the power to impose a settlement on either party. Instead, their role is to mediate between the parties and help them reach an agreement.

We are committed to reaching a tentative agreement that your Bargaining Committee can recommend to you.

We will be scheduling a meeting within the upcoming weeks to discuss next steps. It is asked that all members make every effort to attend so that we can update you and can answer any questions you may have on next steps.

If you have any other questions, please contact a member of your bargaining committee or the NSGEU by calling 902-424-4063 (toll-free 1-877-556-7438) or emailing inquiry@nsgeu.ca.
