Nova Scotia Labour Board Approves Merger of Local 79 and Local 170
NSGEU received the Labour Board’s decision on Friday, February 7th, granting the application to merge our two Bargaining Units, Local 79 and Local 170.
This means effective February 7th all NSGEU members at SMU are in the same Bargaining Unit. This does not change the terms of anyone’s working conditions and the contracts in place will continue to be in place until bargaining is completed.
There will be a meeting scheduled in March to elect a new Local Executive and to populate various Committees and Councils. Once we have completed that process we will start the process of the first round of bargaining with the new combined Bargaining Unit.
Thank you to the membership for your patience and solidarity through this process.
