Show Your Support for Frontline Workers

Dear member,

Here at the NSGEU, we have been hard at work trying to assist our members as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds here in Nova Scotia. The biggest priority for us has been to try and address the serious safety concerns being brought to us by all healthcare workers who are on the frontlines of this fight.

Safety for care providers is not negotiable.

Our healthcare workers are here for all of us, doing everything possible to keep Nova Scotians safe. They’re on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, working around the clock to stop its spread and care for those who are infected.

But they can’t do it alone. They need your help.

Too many workers don’t have access to the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) they need. Without the right equipment, they’re being put into harm’s way. When our workers get sick, they won’t be able to take care of patients. And that’s the last thing we need right now.

Protecting frontline health care workers protects us all. It’s time for the Nova Scotia government to follow the lead of Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick and British Columbia, by agreeing to ensure adequate health and safety controls for care providers, and allowing our trained, professional healthcare workers to use their clinical judgement to determine the controls necessary in the line of duty.

We need your help to protect these workers, so they can protect us.

Please take a few moments to visit our campaign website & send a letter to our elected officials (the Premier, Minister of Health & Wellness, Labour Minister and Justice Minister, as well as your MLA), to let them know that you support better access to PPE for all the frontline healthcare workers, and that we must trust these experienced professionals to use their judgement to determine what PPE they need to do their jobs safely.

If you ARE one of our frontline healthcare workers: thank you. We are asking you to post a selfie and tag it with #nsfrontlinefaces so we can share it and show Nova Scotians what you’re doing for them at this unprecedented time (please make sure not to include any confidential patient information in your image or caption).

Thank you to all of our members for your professionalism, dedication and support at this difficult time. Please send a letter today.

In solidarity,

Jason MacLean

President, NSGEU
