Mark Your Calendars to Attend a Public March/Demonstration in support of retaining the local offices of Veterans Affairs Canada.
Saturday, November 9
Royal Canadian Legion Br. 12 at the Corner of George & Dorchester St., Sydney
10:30 am
Dear members of NSGEU who live in the Cape Breton Region,
We are sending this item to you in the hopes you may wish to attend the demonstration in support of retaining local offices of Veterans Affairs Canada. Although these workers are not NSGEU members, they are members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and deliver important public services just as our members do – and these services are under attack!
The Federal government has announced the closure of veterans offices in communities across Canada, including Sydney. Workers in these offices provide needed support to thousands of veterans who have served our country. Closing down regional offices will make it difficult if not impossible for veterans to access the services they need. This is unacceptable to us.
Public services are not only for those who live in major cities. They are the fabric of our communities and sustain local economies and provide valuable services across the country and across Nova Scotia.
Please take a few minutes to view this excellent short video by the Public Service Alliance of Canada, which is titled “Help our veterans stop Veterans Affairs office closures” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKuGWYFwfsU
