MEDIA RELEASE: Workers’ Rights, Benefits At Risk Under Employer’s Proposal

During the Bill 1 mediation process, the organization representing the employer – the Health Association of Nova Scotia (HANS) – tabled a proposal that would see dozens of classifications moved out of the Health Care bargaining unit, and the potential for these workers to lose benefits they have fought for and achieved over the years is significant.

“The proposal put forward by HANS simply confirms what we have been saying since Bill 1 was tabled: this legislation isn’t about streamlining the bargaining process, it is about taking away the rights and benefits that have been achieved for NSGEU members over many years and rounds of fair, free, and full collective bargaining,” says NSGEU President Joan Jessome.

“It’s shameful. Taking away workers’ rights will only make health care services worse.”
