National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace – 1 year later

NSGEU President Joan Jessome, Director of Negotiations & Servicing Robin MacLean, Health & Safety Officer, Paul Cormier, and Bully-Free Workplaces Coordinator, Susan Coldwell travelled to Toronto on January 16 to attend the celebration of the first year of the implementation of the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace. The event was organized by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC).

The NSGEU joined approximately 200 stakeholders from organizations across all sectors and sizes, the mental health community, and members of the media, to celebrate the impact of the Standard one year after its launch.

While in Toronto attending this milestone event, the NSGEU also began our participation in a Case Study by the MHCC. We are one of 30 organizations selected to participate (and the only union selected). The MHCC will be following us for a three year period to study how we implement the Standard over that period of time.

The MHCC is holding monthly free webinars with mental health experts and organizations who are moving toward a psychologically-safer workplace. Presented on the last Wednesday of every month at noon ET, the webinars take stock of what employers are already doing to improve the workplace, as well as providing the opportunity to brainstorm ways to continue momentum. http://www.mentalhealthcommission.ca/English/workinar
