NSGEU Board votes unanimously to donate $10,000 to Christmas Daddies in lieu of holiday advertising

Cheque presentation to Christmas Daddies will be broadcast live on Sunday, December 1st between 11am and noon on CTV.

Dear NSGEU members,

Everyday you work to improve the lives of Nova Scotians.  In this spirit, for the fourth year in a row, the NSGEU Board of Directors has unanimously endorsed a motion to redirect $10,000 (NSGEU’s holiday advertising budget with CTV), to Christmas Daddies as a donation. The $10,000 amount was what NSGEU spent on television ads which were broadcast on CTV and Eastlink during the holiday season prior to 2010.

Two cheques,  (NS Mainland – $7,000; Cape Breton – $3,000), will be presented by members of the NSGEU Provincial Executive on behalf of the membership between 11am and noon on CTV during the Christmas Daddies Telethon on Sunday, Dec. 1st.
This donation, made on your behalf, will mean a great deal for families who need support during the holiday season. It also reflects our ongoing commitment to social justice and making a difference in our communities across the province. For this reason, you will not see any NSGEU holiday greetings on television this year.
Christmas Daddies was chosen as our recipient charity because it is available to all Nova Scotians and easily accessible. All families on income assistance receive an application form for support from Christmas Daddies. If you are not on income assistance, Christmas Daddies support can be accessed through either Feed Nova Scotia or the Salvation Army.
