NAOSH Week May 3- May 9
The North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week is honoured in Canada, the US, and Mexico. It focuses the attention of employers, employees, partners, and the public, on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community.
For years, a day-long conference marking the opening day of NAOSH Week, has been held at the NSGEU. It has been co-sponsored by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE). Our OHS Officer, Paul Cormier, is the Chair of the organizing committee for this celebratory and instructional day. Although we are disappointed not to be seeing everyone face-to-face there are still some digital events happening and you can find out more here: http://www.naosh.org/english/
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought Occupational Health & Safety measures to the top of mind for all Canadians. Safety controls, like tape placed every 6ft in the store to designate safe distancing, and effective Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are being discussed and implemented almost everywhere. Unfortunately, we have seen this virus claim the lives of many front line workers and we must continue to improve our safety measures and practices to make our lives and workplaces as safe as possible. The NSGEU is dedicated to developing and deepening the safety culture and safety procedures and policy in Nova Scotia.
“Each year, NAOSH Week offers us a time to reflect on what we do every day – both individually and collectively – to continually improve workplace health and safety. It’s an opportunity to reinforce and strengthen our commitment to reducing the impact of injury and illness in our workplaces, our homes and our communities. NAOSH Week inspires us toward excellence in our health and safety goals.” From, The Nova Scotia Chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering
