April 19 is NSGEU Day
The NSGEU began as the Nova Scotia Civil Service Association on April 18-19, 1958.
Civil servants came together to improve their work life, job security, and public service. Back in the day, civil service employees could be hired and fired at the whim of who was in government. Our members fought for, and won, a grievance procedure and job posting procedures…among other things. We became a union in 1981 and have continued to fight for and improve working conditions ever since.
We are a democratic, non-profit organization, run by the membership. Today, we celebrate all our members past and present who have brought us to this day and who continue improving working conditions and strengthening public services into the future.
We stand together! In solidarity!
Happy Birthday NSGEU!
