Celebrate Pride with NSGEU!
Dear NSGEU members,
NSGEU’s Human Rights Committee is inviting you to celebrate Pride by joining us at the upcoming Pride parades being held in Halifax, Truro, and Sydney!
- The Halifax parade will take place on Saturday, July 22nd starting at 1 p.m. We’re asking members to meet us at the Halifax dockyard between noon and 12:45 p.m., where we’ll start walking with the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour (NSFL). Click here for more information about Halifax Pride Week.
- The Truro parade will take place the following Saturday (July 29th) starting at 2 p.m. We’re asking members to meet us at the Colchester Stadium on Lorne Street between 1 and 1:45 p.m., where we will again march with the NSFL.
- Finally, the Sydney parade will take place on Saturday, August 5th at noon. The parade will start to line up in the northend of George Street, turning onto Dorchester Street, turning on Esplande, turning onto Townsend, turning onto George Street and finishing at Open Hearth Park. Further details of this event can be found on their Facebook page by clicking here.
These Pride Parades are just one of many events that take place during the Pride celebrations in Halifax, Truro, and Sydney. In addition, all Nova Scotia public servants are invited to show the Province of Nova Scotia’s pride and march with their employer (the Public Service Commission) in the Halifax Pride Parade on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 (float decorating to begin at 10 a.m. at the Halifax Dockyard Marshalling Area; for more information, please email LGBTINetwork@novascotia.ca).
“Pride events are a great opportunity for NSGEU members to come together with other unions and show their solidarity support of 2SLGBTQ+ issues,” says Melissa Marsman, Chair of NSGEU’s Human Rights Committee.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you there!
Note: We will have a limited number of NSGEU Pride t-shirts to give away to members who show up to march with the NSGEU in the parades (they will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis). Please remember to bring water and wear sunscreen!
