Local 27 – Evergreen Home for Special Care Policy Grievance Resolved
Good afternoon,
As you’re likely aware, the union had filed a grievance on behalf of members in the Local, as the employer was failing to notify the employees when they were eligible to join the group benefits plan. This failure to notify resulted in some employees having to back pay the employee portion of the cost if they chose to opt into the plan.
The employer now has a new provider and any employee who is otherwise eligible for the group coverage may participate in the benefits plan on a go-forward basis upon application, without paying any retroactive position of the premiums. As well, all employees will routinely be advised when the become eligible for participation in the group benefits plan. Any member who is not in the group benefit plan and wishes to do so should have that conversation with the employer.
