Locals 70, 73 & 74: Education Compensation Alignment
As communicated, there are currently three outstanding comparator classification disputes. To date, two of these disputes have been presented to Arbitrator Hollett, following a failed attempt to mediate. Last week the Parties received Arbitrator Hollett’s decision on one area of dispute, and we are pleased to advise that the Union was successful in the first challenge. During the hearing on July 28, Arbitrator Hollett also heard evidence on the second dispute, and the Parties will have the opportunity to cross examine witnesses on that matter during the September 18th hearing. At that time, we expect that we will begin the mediation portion of our third known dispute. If mediation fails, we will present our case to the arbitrator and ask that she render a decision on both disputes.
In the meantime, representatives from the Union, AVRCE, SSRCE, TCRCE, Department of Education, and the Nova Scotia Education Common Service Bureau will continue to share information on the total compensation factors for each remaining classification that is subject to the process. Should the parties identify further disputes through our analysis of the remaining classifications, we have scheduled a fourth mediation/arbitration session for October 6th where those matters will be mediated or arbitrated.
