Before your idea goes to Convention, you need to decide how to present it. Your idea will be treated differently depending on whether or not it requires a change to the Constitution and By-Laws. You and your Local must determine if it is a General Resolution or a Constitution Amendment. You use a General Resolution only when your action or idea for change will not affect the Union’s Constitution and By-Laws.
In fact, there are three types of resolutions that can be debated at Convention:
General Resolutions:
A formal statement of opinion, or a statement to direct an action, adopted by the NSGEU Convention delegates at the Triennial Convention. This does not include changes to the Constitution and By-laws, which is a Constitutional Amendment. General resolutions are submitted to the Resolutions Committee. Resolutions must be received in the NSGEU Head Office by 12:00 noon on March 21, 2025.
Constitutional Amendments:
A means to change, alter, improve or correct the Constitution and By-laws of the NSGEU. Must be submitted as a constitutional amendment in resolution format by 12:00 noon on March 21, 2025.

Extraordinary Resolutions:
This is the term used if your idea deals with issues or events that happened AFTER the deadline for resolutions or constitutional amendments are to be submitted, (by 12:00 noon March 21, 2025) has passed.
